Practice Lab: Coach Towards a Goal

1 class
60 minutes

Description

As a coach, your role is to provide support, and thoughtful probing as your direct reports work towards their goals. However, as a manager, you often have to direct people's work to influence outcomes.

In this class, we’ll revisit the spectrum of coaching approaches, ranging from directive to supportive. We’ll practice applying these approaches to real-life coaching conversations and discuss how to best use each of these approaches depending on the context to navigate your role as a coach and manager.

You’ll leave with a greater understanding of:

  • What do supportive and directive approaches to coaching look like within the GROW model
  • Which coaching approach do you usually lean towards, and how does this impacts your direct reports
  • How to decide whether to take a supportive or directive approach to coaching
